In a massive development, several users on Monday evening complained that servers of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram are down. Users complained about not being able to connect to the servers meaning that they were not able to send or receive messages to their contacts on each of these platforms.
Meanwhile, Facebook released a statement: "We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
"Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication," Facebook said early Tuesday morning, after the six-hour long outage it experienced on Monday night.
Users began reporting Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp returned to function at around 1 a.m., after the platforms shut down for users across the globe at approximately 18:30 p.m. on Monday.
